White Night @ Coachwerks : A Light through the night

by The Karavan Ensemble & Coachwerks members.

Collecting lamps of all sizes and shapes from various house holds in Hollingdean, The Karavan Ensemble will create a collection of little poetic moments spanning from installation/live art & performance pieces intertwined with more interactive elements, weaving a journey through visual imaginary, intimate encounters and absurd realities. On the white Night Coachwerks will be transformed, illuminated only by these orphan lamps and lights creating a new landscape and atmosphere at the venue in which the audience will unexpectedly meet with another reality.....

The audience will be picked up from the corn exchange by The Big Lemon Bus, the performance will already start on the bus.
The bus will leave 15 minutes before the hour from 8.45 until 23.45, the interventions will start at 9pm at coachwerks and will run for 20 to 30 minutes every hour ending with a final show at midnight.

The Karavan Ensemble is a group of international performers arching between dance, music, physical theatre, visual live art and text based work. This mixture of nationalities and backgrounds will enable a wide variety of spoken and performative languages.
The performance will create a feeling of travelling inside our own intricate journeys, as well as travelling between light, darkness and the imagination.

'We are in a kind of dream world, an imagination space, a mood-space, an atmosphere where the fourth wall has fallen and yet is also strangely a kind of ghost haunting the experience... there's a warm and almost charming intimacy in this physical collage... The fourth wall is tossed about on this sea of invention...It's full of heart, warmth and welcome.' Paul Levi -Fringe Review
'Yael has gathered together an international band of actors, dancers and musicians whose credentials and commitment are impressive.' Bela Todd -Latest 7

Yael Karavan’s work with the Karavan Ensemble for Ship of Fools delved into a make believe world and transformed the rough and ready Coachwerks studios into site specific performance space creating a web of one on one interactions with her characters. Karavan’s ability to immerse the audience into a fantasy world punctuated by her cast of “fools” allowed audiences to observe, absorb but also interact within the atmosphere she created. Karavan’s own performance was a highlight of the work with a commanding presence, comedic moments and cleverly executed choreography. Vicky Bloor South East Dance
