Four weeks of tuition learning to cast on & off, garter stitch(plain), stocking stitch(purl), combinations of these to create textured stitches,simple increasing & decreasing. This four week course will enable you to learn all the basics you need to create a vast array of simple projects for yourself and family. Learn safe and efficient use of simple hand tools to create your own wooden spoons and spatulas.
Starting with freshly cut 'green' wood you will be guided through various carving techniques using saws, hatchets, whittling (carving) knives and spoon knives to create one or more items to take away with you.
No previous experience required, all tools and materials provided. Ages 12 and above. Under sixteens must be accompanied by an adult guardian.

“Chinese Whispers” in dance. The brain workings of 4 dyslexic dancers. Misinterpretation or reinterpretation? Generating confusion or generating ideas?
What?! revolves around the theme of errors in communication as new input for the creative process. This is a creative research project taking place at Coachwerks from 16th to 23rd May with a final public performance on 24th May. Nick Lawson, Aurore-Marie Facundo, Elizabeth Giles and Angharad Harrop will work collaboratively with South Korean choreographer Ji Park and under the direction of Ana Fernández. During the creative process the dancers will be encouraged to interpret movement according to their aural, visual and kinaesthetic information decoding preferences. “What?!” is a game. It has a playful quality that will thrive with every dancer’s perspective and understanding.

Due to a Fado song she likes, French Elise has chosen troubled Portuguese Mariana as her companion to share a tiny flat. Trustful Elise embraces Mariana's despair. Respectively sustained and betrayed by their aspirations, they both suffer from their unlikely friendship until Paula moves in.
Marion Deprez graduated at the School of Physical theatre, Three Mills End, London, 2007. She has worked as assistant director for Tamasha's production, Lyrical MC. Her first piece (“How do you spell it?” Fringe 2008), a cross between a home-made ballet and a 1920's thriller dealt with obsessive compulsive disorder and manic depression. It did make people shredder and laugh in 35 minutes.

This ambient installation-based performance piece centres on original solo piano music composed by Ty Jeffries. Incorporating image projections, sound design, physical theatre, dance and voice. Haunting, evocative and dreamlike, this installation performance takes place at the time daylight fades.
Contemplate the twilight immersed in soundscapes and piano compositions and linger with the poignant characters that inhabit the space. This piece alternates excerpts of Ty Jeffries compositions with soundscape design by Echo Sound Design, hypnotizing interventions by contralto opera singer Helen Lewis and physical characterisations by dazzling dancers and physical theatre artists Ana Fernández, Eva Recacha, Bea Triarchis and Rachel Champion.
This unique event invites you to consider the fading light as the main source for the creative impulse. Coachwerks performance studio is a 2000sq ft venue surrounded by skylights with a beautiful decadent, industrial look. The guest artists are using the changes in light and the space as a source of inspiration. As an audience member you may want to witness from a corner, change the direction of your chair or move around the space to capture the instants that most interest you.

We have supported choreographer Ji Park, physical theatre company La Vlà La Manche and music composer Ty Jeffries in the development and staging of their new work. All three pieces have been performed during the Brighton Fringe Festival.
Sat on the roof over the last couple of days in the sunshine has been amazing. It's been a time to reflect and catch our breath. Everyone has put in almost super-human quantities of energy and time and effort to push Coachwerks near to realisation. Almost everything's started and a lot is getting finished. Work is starting to come into the space. The future is golden and nice.
Things to look forward to:
Grow BAC - I'm setting this up with Emma from Westwerks. We want to grow back businesses and communies through shared green space. We're staring in the yard.
Photographic studio - we're getting organised so photographers can use the large studio - we're hoping to get processing soon also
Maggie Tran is moving into her space next week. Tony and Antonio are doing really well on theirs

As the night cooks up The Echo boys enjoy a well earn'd. At the rear, Mags & Emma prepare fresh spring rolls. David Parker of Figment Arts takes the opportunity to show off his new space. As do Echo Sound Design First up on stage, Katy Boyd - we loved her mix of country, backwater, a little bit old time, a little bit foot-stomping folky numbers. *click here* for her myspace. This was followed by a Display of Renaissance Swordsmanship by the 1595 Club In a spectacular performance, a fully grown adult male known as Emlyn was given birth to. And to finish, Ana - a raw, strange and energised improv dance
Other performances included Mark Price of Kate's Kitchen Band and The Bobby Mcgees - neither of whom we have photos for - testament perhaps, to the strength of the cider that suddenly appeared at the bar.
If you didn't get a chance to join in with the Buildathon over the last few days - good news! We've been lent a concrete mixer and are going for the push to level out the floor in the big studio. Come along between 10am and 9pm this weekend with your old warm clothes. Tools, materials, food & endless cups of tea provided. If you've got a shovel, bring it along!
There'll be a nice camp fire with sausages & beers on Sunday evening for everyone! The Bring Your Own disco is postponed until we're done.

Day Four - 08.03.09 Martin offering Lorna some drilling advice. Scenes of sublime madness - 18 people descended on CW today - sifting rubble through an old shopping trolley.
Day Three - 07.03.09 Burning off the old with Ian & Javi Made a start drilling up part of the old concrete to make way for the new floor.
Day Two - 06.03.09 Touchdown! we got to the bottom of the big pit and starting working south! The rubble is getting used as hardcore to go under the new concrete floor. Alex in the new outside space at the back (soon to be the wood workshop). -----
Day One - 05.03.09 The big pit was opened and we started digging out the rubble for use in our new floor. Javi and John take down the tumble-down space to make way for our new wood-workshop
The bar has been built, the soup cooked and the mulled wine mulling. Time to open Coachwerks! For the first time we opened our doors to all who passed, got some live music together and had a pretty good, albeit chilly night.
Jono - amazing - turned up on the 16th with a list of stuff we can borrow. Helped us out with lighting and the PA and opened for us. What a guy! Hot acapella from Oswalde, singing like she means business Danny aka Laish & Rowan Mark - singing like Leonard Cohen with a sore throat - wild!
